Southlake, Texas Home of the Nation's Highest Median Income!
You may have recently read that Southlake, TX has been recognized for having the highest median income in the nation. The Dallas Morning News reported this juicy tidbit of good news in yesterday’s edition. While the West Coast may have it’s glitz and glam, Southlake homeowners are rolling in the dough!
Other North Texas Communities are in the Money!
In addition to Southlake, there were two other North Texas cities that appeared on the Top Ten List of Most Affluent residents in the country
according to U.S. Census Bureau figures released on Tuesday. Residents in Southlake earn $172,945 a year. This information is provided by the American Community Survey. The Dallas neighborhood of University Park ranked seventh with a median income of $151,418. The neighboring community of Colleyville came in with a median salary of $148,789 which was ninth on the list. Impressive indeed! Just to note, the 2000 census was the first year the survey was performed which provides data on a demographic and socioeconomic level for communities in the U.S. communities targeting those communities with a population of 20,000-65,000 residents. The survey omits smaller communities, like the exclusive Dallas enclave of Highland Park.
Southlake, TX – We’re On a Roll!
Could this be a trend? This is the second Metroplex community to receive the honor of ranking high for wealth. Earlier this summer Plano was recognized for being the wealthiest large city in America.
Local Leaders Point to Quality of Life as Drivers of Metroplex Attraction!
The Dallas paper identified these reasons why our Tarrant County cities attract such wealth. The reasons included:
- Wealth enhances a city’s quality of life
- At the heart of a community’s quality of life is the inner richness of it’s residents
- A community develops a reputation for quality of life and the message of that area’s reputation spreads easily and quickly
- Southlake has award-winning schools
- Championship-caliber high school football teams are common in Southlake. In case you didn’t know, passion for high school football in the state of Texas runs extremely deep and that’s an understate!
- A popular and very successful Town Square in Southlake making it an attractive to play, shop, dine and do business
- The highly desirable Metroplex neighborhoods of Southlake and Colleyville offer large luxury homes on large lots. Hence the reason for rock-solid property values in Southlake and Colleyville.
- Southlake and Colleyville attracts top paid professionals and business owners
Obviously this reputation can spawn it’s fair share of envy, as noted in the recently published D Magazine story titled “Why You Should Hate Southlake.” I’m inclined to agree with Southlake Chamber of Commerce official Ms. Phillips! I say “embrace the recognition”!
